Trauma Education
By Joseph Toth
I continue to learn about trauma, attachment theory and trauma focused therapy. I am interested in learning more about the impact of trauma, PTSD and other forms of stress responses. I am learning about big “T”s and little “t”s and the brain system and how trauma impacts the amygdala and prefrontal cortex. As a licensed therapist, it is important to understand the fundamentals of trauma and unresolved trauma. I am looking forward to becoming more experienced and using treatment modalities to help patients with unresolved trauma. I have finished Bessel van der Kolk’s: The Body Keeps the Score.
I am also receiving additional training and education through PESI and the Midwest Center for EMDR. Only 8% of people are diagnosed with PTSD, however many people continue to have challenges with unresolved trauma, and some have childhood trauma. I am also taking CERT training. Community Emergency Response Team. I am going to volunteer at CERT. I can assist with my professional background as a licensed therapist and mental health provider. This year will present good learning opportunities as I continue to develop and refine my practice and clinical skills.
